Wines of Touraine

Look at the department of Indre-et-Loire, it represents a well vine leaf! It is in this natural cradle that the man planted 2000 years ago, the first young wines. Saint Martin, François Rabelais, Léonard de Vinci, François 1st, Honoré de Balzac ; there are many great men, kings or writers, been born or having lived in Touraine, who are not miserly of praises for these wines marked by the relaxed rhythm of life. The climate, here is moderated, between oceanic (Anjou) and more continental (Berry). It's in this context that the Loire and its valleys bring to light on both sides of the river, the beautiful terraces of rocky alluviums near Chinon, near magnificent hillsides hilly and cut from wide slices of calcareous rocks between Vouvray and Amboise, or further east in valley of the dear, the wide trays of sands and flint in naming Touraine.

The combination of this geologic environment and the Atlantic influences, guided by the genius of the wine grower, is the key for the blooming of the major vines of Touraine : the white chenin for dry whites and softness (AOC Vouvray, Touraine Azay-le-Rideau) or for the sparkling (AOC Vouvray,...) the sauvignon for the aromatic dry whites (AOC Touraine), and the frank Cabernet for red (AOC Chinon, St Nicolas de Bourgueil).
