Le melon

Since the 16th century, the argilo-calcareous soils of "Touraine" produces melons recognized for their gustative quality. The "sucrin of Tours", an old cultivated variety, is replaced by the "melon charentais" today. After having prepared the soils, the melons are planted in spring. The blooming takes place two months after the plantation according to the heat. At the same time, thirst-quenching, refreshing (90 % of water) and delicious, the melon is rich in vitamins (particularly in provitamin A: carotene), micro-nutrients and fibers. It can be tasted raw, accompanied with ham, in starter or dessert.
